LATEST INFORMATION FOR CAMPERVANS / MOTORHOMES
OVERNIGHT PARKING
If you intend to use your vehicle for accommodation, out-with your own
or a friend’s house-site, you must have a designated overnight parking
space for each night of your stay. There are several sites available at a
very reasonable price of £10 per night on Crofts across the island and
at Balinoe Campsite. Unless booked at Balinoe Campsite, upon arrival at Tiree, please visit the CalMac Office at the Pier-head where the Tiree Access Officer will organise the booking, and payment, of your parking spaces. Any vehicles parking illegally overnight will be asked to move to an approved site.
Please read this section thoroughly before arriving on the island
as it contains information on how to select and book an overnight
parking site for your vehicle.
BOOKING YOUR SITE
Unless booked at Balinoe Campsite, on arrival at Tiree, drive up the pier, avoiding the ferry vehicle parking lanes on your right, and park in the obvious car park straight ahead of you (see map below), or if this is full, continue on the road towards Scarinish and park on the gravel area on the left immediately beyond the houses. Please then walk to the CalMac Office, which lies next to the ferry vehicle parking lanes, where the Access Officer will meet you and arrange the booking for your overnight parking sites for the duration of your stay on the island. The Access Officer will have further information for you about all the sites and payments can be made by cash or by credit/debit card. If, for any reason, you fail to get booked into a site on arrival, please phone the Tiree Access Officer on 07765 449487 or 01879 220677 and they will arrange to meet you.
PLEASE NOTE THAT PAYMENT WILL NEED TO BE IN CASH
OR BY CHEQUE.
Details of pitches and their locations are below.

CAMPING
Tiree now has its own designated campsite at Balinoe and all campers are welcome to stay here for a small charge. The campsite has the standard facilities expected and its central location means it's not
far from anywhere on Tiree. For further information, please contact William-Angus MacLean on 07712 159205. For more details use

Recreational users and land managers alike welcome responsible
'wild camping' on Tiree. When camping please choose a site well away from houses to ensure disturbance to both parties is minimised. Unlike official campsites, this type of camping is lightweight, done in small numbers and only for up to three nights in any one place. On Tiree, as houses are widely scattered, it is preferred that all campers seek permission before pitching their tent. Driving off metalled roads beyond the verge with a Campervan, or in a vehicle to access
tent-sites is not permitted.
Please avoid damaging grass by not lighting camp-fires on grassland.
The only public toilets on the island are located at Scarinish. Campers staying elsewhere on the island are reminded that they should leave nothing but footprints at their campsite. Burying of faeces is not recommend on machair or sand dune areas as digging into the sand can instigate erosion; as with all litter, faeces should be removed from these areas in a plastic carrier bag, and disposed of responsibly.

Natural Heritage - Dualchas Nadarra An Eilein
You are welcome to explore our island but please remember that as well as being a beautiful island to visit, many of the places described here are environmentally sensitive and are the homes and work places of local people. You can help maintain the island and its way of life in many small ways, by observing the Island Code:
- Guard against all risk of fire
- Leave gates as you find them
- Keep your dogs under close control and away from livestock
- Take care crossing land, use paths and tracks where available
- Take care crossing fences and walls, use gates and stiles where available
- Keep to boundaries of fields where crops are growing including long grass
- Leave livestock and machinery alone
- Leave natural and historical features as you find them
- Watch but don't interfere with wildlife
- Make no unnecessary noise
- Park responsibly - farm gateways are workplace entrances
- Do not leave litter
- Take nothing but photographs, keep nothing but memories,
leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time!
- If in doubt please ask someone. A courteous and friendly approach to all
you meet will help us all enjoy our island

Driving on the Island - Rathaidean An Eilein
When driving or cycling on single-track roads please remember:
- Passing places are marked with black and white poles, or
passing-place signs, and must be used to permit oncoming traffic
to proceed and to allow following traffic to overtake
- Never park in passing places. They are not viewpoints
- Always stay on the left-hand side of the road when using passing places
- If the passing place is on your right-hand side, wait opposite (on the left) and allow traffic to pass
- No-one minds how slowly drivers travel along our roads, so long as they pull in to allow following vehicles to pass. Remember, the car behind could be a doctor in a hurry, or other emergency services. A vehicle attending an emergency call, will have its hazards flashing and headlights on so please let it pass at the first safe opportunity
- Use sidelights at night when stopped in passing place
- There is no vehicular right of access across croft land or common grazing
